About The Position

The Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) is seeking a Teacher 1 (Science) to instruct students at Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility (CJCF). This role is crucial in implementing the DYS educational mission to habilitate youth and empower families and communities. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a solid background and a passion for working with youth, analyzing student needs, developing lesson plans, providing individualized instruction, and counseling students on their academic and behavioral progress. Requirements

• Current Teacher Certificate appropriate for science & grade level to be assigned.
• Baccalaureate degree or less.

Responsibilities

• Instruct students at Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility (CJCF) in academic Science programs.
• Analyze records to identify student’s immediate & long-range needs and develop lesson plans accordingly.
• Provide individualized instruction & assistance to students.
• Administer, score & interpret examination & proficiency indicators.
• Counsel students concerning their performance, behavior &/or personal problems.
• Conduct on-going assessment of student progress to update records of student’s needs & corresponding instructional & training programs.
• Counsel students regarding academic & behavioral progress.
• Document student progress and maintain student’s performance reports.
• Participate in institutional treatment activities.
• Care for & maintain all classroom equipment & learning aides.
• Prepare budgetary proposals, research, select, recommend & requisition for new educational resources.
• Maintain necessary inventories & order supplies & material needed.
• Prepare & maintain required records (e.g., enrollment figures, grades, student progress) & submit reports as required.
• Attend a variety of meetings (e.g., in-service training, treatment teams, student interviews).
• Maintain professional growth through participation in meetings, workshops & formal education programs.
