About The Position

The Louisiana Sales and Use Tax Commission for Remote Sellers was created by Act 274 of the 2017 Regular Legislative Session. The Commission is charged with the administration and collection of sales and use tax with respect to remote sellers. We promote uniformity and simplicity in compliance and we adhere to the Code of Government Ethics while providing leadership and professionalism in our duties to those we represent and serve. This role supports a specialized statewide commission and plays a key part in the growing area of remote seller tax administration.

Requirements

  • Six semester hours in accounting, business, economics, finance, management, information systems management, or quantitative methods.
  • Four years of experience in accounting, financial auditing, tax administration, tax policy or law, management analysis, or administrative services in a financial setting.
  • Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus one year of experience in accounting, financial auditing, tax administration, tax policy or law, management analysis, or administrative services in a financial setting.
  • A bachelor's degree plus one year of experience in accounting, financial auditing, tax administration, tax policy or law, management analysis, or administrative services in a financial setting.
  • An advanced degree or Juris Doctorate.
  • Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or a current Louisiana license to practice law.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Processes returns and payments.
  • Manages remote seller accounts.
  • Assists taxpayers.
  • Reviews penalty waiver requests and makes a determination or recommendation in accordance with Commission adopted guidance.
  • Authorizes or recommends issuance of any refund or credit due.
  • Reviews applications submitted by businesses to determine eligibility to file as a remote seller.
  • Opens and closes taxpayer accounts, generates all correspondence pertaining to new/closed accounts; verifies account closings by reviewing taxpayer history to determine if there are outstanding balances due prior to closing an account.
  • Reports any outstanding balances to Executive Director prior to closing account.
  • Ensures payments are properly recorded.
  • Assists taxpayers with applications, filing of returns, payment of taxes, and any general questions.
  • Develops and analyzes internal processes and recommends and implements procedural or manual changes.
  • Educates taxpayers regarding return and payment processing and management.
