About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Revenue is currently recruiting for a Revenue Tax Technician (RTT) position to work in the Examination Division. This position performs a variety of tasks within the Withholding Section within Central Examination. The Revenue Tax Technician is involved in educating and assisting taxpayers in the areas of tax compliance and reporting procedures to ensure compliance with tax laws. The position makes technical determinations based upon established procedures that require an accurate analysis of data and situations to draw sound conclusions which result in effective courses of action. The position performs technical functions by reviewing and analyzing data in the withholding tax schedule. The position accesses and reviews taxpayer account information and enters information into ITAS based on their review and departmental rules and regulations and assists in maintenance of databases and spreadsheets related to the audit programs. Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of business and accounting principles
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Basic knowledge of taxation principles and terminology
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field from an appropriately accredited institution, and one year work experience preferably in an accounting-related environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Related fields considered are as follows: Public Sector & Government Administration Management, Economics, Tax, Finance, Public Administration, Business Management, Tax Law, Business Law, Financial Management, Business Operations, Trust and Wealth Management, and Administrative Science.

Responsibilities
