Tax Senior Associate - Tax Controversy – Washington National Tax
About The Position
RSM’s Washington National Tax office advises clients and firm engagement teams on complex tax issues. The Tax Controversy/IRS practice and procedure team advises on IRS procedural and controversy matters and represents clients before the IRS, including on tax account issues, penalty and interest abatements, missed-election private letter ruling requests, IRS examinations, appeals, and alternative dispute resolution. The Tax Senior Associate will consult with clients and RSM professionals across the firm on a range of tax controversy, tax practice, and procedure issues, while assisting senior professionals with related matters.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited university.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong research and writing skills.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to meet client service, quality, and performance expectations within applicable deadlines and in accordance with firm and client standards.
- Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively with firm personnel and clients in person, by telephone, and through electronic or written means.
- Effective project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, tasks, and projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy and quality in a fast-paced, client-service environment.

Responsibilities
- Assist senior professionals with IRS examinations and appeals matters.
- Research technical IRS practice and procedure issues, including tax, penalty, and interest assessments; statutes of limitation for refunds and assessments; missed elections; and IRS examination and appeals matters.
- Prepare written communications to the IRS regarding penalty abatement requests.
- Work on IRS account issues, corrections, and reconciliations.
- Assist senior professionals with preparation of Private Letter Ruling Requests.
- Participate in firm trainings.
