About The Position

As a Tax Manager, you’ll oversee the preparation and review of complex federal, state, and local tax returns, lead tax research initiatives, and drive tax planning and compliance strategies across a diverse client portfolio. This role requires deep technical expertise in federal and state tax regulations, strong engagement management skills, and the ability to partner directly with clients and internal stakeholders. The Tax Manager provides leadership to senior and staff-level team members, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely delivery of all work products. You will also play a key role in identifying process improvements, managing multiple engagements simultaneously, and staying current on evolving tax laws to support informed decision-making and firmwide compliance.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of tax accounting experience, including 2+ years of direct client management.
  • Bachelor’s in Accounting or related field (CPA preferred).
  • Strong technical ability to prepare and review federal and state tax returns, deep understanding of U.S. tax reform, tax theories, and applicable regulatory guidance.
  • Proficient in tax research, analysis, and written memoranda; able to identify tax-saving strategies and deliver innovative client solutions.
  • Skilled in reviewing financial statements for accuracy and compliance, and in utilizing tax research tools, cloud-based software, and accounting systems.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multiple tax engagements, overseeing the preparation and review of complex federal, state, and local tax returns.
  • Advise clients on tax-saving strategies, planning opportunities, and innovative solutions that support compliance and drive business value.
  • Conduct and review technical tax research, analysis, and written memoranda on federal and state tax matters.
  • Review financial statements for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with applicable accounting standards.
  • Supervise, coach, and mentor Interns, Staff, Senior Staff, and Tax Supervisors, ensuring high-quality workpapers, consistent processes, and professional development.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of current tax legislation, regulatory guidance, and emerging tax theories, applying them effectively across client engagements.
  • Utilize tax research platforms, cloud-based tools, and accounting software to support efficient, accurate engagement execution.
  • Partner with clients and internal teams to manage deadlines, prioritize competing projects, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Apply strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and analytical skills to resolve complex tax issues and support informed decision-making.
  • Uphold best practices in accounting procedures, documentation, and compliance while contributing to continuous process improvement across the tax practice.
