About The Position

Larson Gross is seeking an experienced Tax Manager or Senior Manager to join our growing Captive Insurance Tax practice. This is a unique opportunity for a tax professional to step into a highly specialized, in-demand niche that blends complex compliance with meaningful advisory work. The role offers direct exposure to closely held businesses and high-net-worth clients, with the opportunity to play a key role in shaping and expanding this developing practice area at Larson Gross. The Tax Manager / Senior Manager will lead the delivery of tax compliance and advisory services for captive insurance structures and related entities. This individual will serve as a technical resource and client advisor, supporting both day-to-day compliance and higher-level planning, structuring, and controversy matters. This role is best suited for someone who can operate in a specialist capacity, while also contributing to client relationships and practice growth.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with closely held businesses and complex tax structures
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • CPA license required
  • Manager: 5+ years of public accounting tax experience preferred; equivalent relevant tax experience will be considered
  • Senior Manager: 8+ years of public accounting tax experience preferred; equivalent relevant tax experience will be considered
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships and multiple engagements

Nice To Haves

  • Captive insurance experience preferred.
  • Candidates with insurance tax, reinsurance tax, alternative risk, or other specialized tax experience will be considered.
  • Relevant experience may include: Tax compliance or planning for captive insurance companies
  • Experience with §831(b) captives or micro-captive structures
  • Background in insurance tax, including P&C, reinsurance, or alternative risk arrangements
  • Understanding of risk distribution and risk shifting concepts
  • Experience supporting IRS audits or controversy involving captives or insurance entities

Responsibilities

  • Manage and review tax compliance for captive insurance companies and related entities
  • Provide technical guidance on IRC §831(b) and insurance-specific tax considerations
  • Advise clients on captive structuring, including risk distribution and risk shifting principles
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships
  • Support and lead IRS examinations, audits, and controversy matters related to captives
  • Lead multiple engagements, including planning, execution, and delivery
  • Review work of staff and seniors; provide mentorship and technical development
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and contribute to advisory-focused engagements
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to support practice growth and service line expansion
