About The Position

Hungerford is seeking a Winter Tax Intern for the Winter Semester, running from February through April 2028. This internship offers hands-on experience in preparing individual income tax returns and provides insight into the operations of a public accounting firm during tax season. Interns will work closely with the tax team, receiving guidance, feedback, and support to develop technical and professional skills. The program includes a formal Buddy Program to ensure access to necessary resources and feedback for success.

Requirements

• Current undergraduate, graduate, nontraditional student, or recent graduate
• Pursuing or recently completed a degree in accounting or a related field
• Preferred minimum GPA of 3.0
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Willingness to ask questions, receive feedback, and learn
• Ability to work collaboratively in a professional environment
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word

Responsibilities

• Preparing primarily individual income tax returns (Form 1040)
• Assisting with more complex individual returns, personal property tax returns, and business or partnership returns as opportunities are available
• Preparing trial balances, workpapers, and depreciation schedules using Microsoft Excel and Word
• Learning and following the firm’s policies, procedures, and quality standards
• Developing an understanding of the rules, regulations, and Code of Professional Conduct established by the AICPA
• Communicating questions and project updates to members of the tax team
• Participating in firm activities and building relationships with professionals across the organization
