About The Position

Hungerford is seeking a Winter Tax Intern for the Winter Semester, running from February through April 2027. This internship offers hands-on experience in preparing individual income tax returns and provides insight into the operations of a public accounting firm during tax season. Interns will work with experienced tax professionals who will offer guidance, review work, and support the development of technical and professional skills. The program includes a formal Buddy Program and support from multiple team members to ensure success.

Requirements

• Current undergraduate, graduate, nontraditional student, or recent graduate
• Pursuing or recently completed a degree in accounting or a related field
• Preferred minimum GPA of 3.0
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Willingness to ask questions, receive feedback, and learn
• Ability to work collaboratively in a professional environment
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word

Responsibilities

• Preparing primarily individual income tax returns (Form 1040)
• Assisting with more complex individual returns, personal property tax returns, and business or partnership returns as opportunities are available
• Preparing trial balances, workpapers, and depreciation schedules using Microsoft Excel and Word
• Learning and following the firm’s policies, procedures, and quality standards
• Developing an understanding of the rules, regulations, and Code of Professional Conduct established by the AICPA
• Communicating questions and project updates to members of the tax team
• Participating in firm activities and building relationships with professionals across the organization
