The Tax Director will serve as a strategic business partner responsible for leading U.S. and international tax planning, compliance, reporting, and risk management activities, while supporting cross-border transactions, financing structures, cash repatriation, treasury initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, insurance arrangements, and other key business operations. This is an onsite role based in New Haven, CT.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA or MST strongly preferred.
  • 10–15+ years of progressive tax experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
  • Combination of Big Four/public accounting and multinational corporate tax experience preferred.
  • Significant experience with U.S. corporate taxation
  • Significant experience with International tax
  • Significant experience with Tax accounting
  • Significant experience with Transfer pricing
  • Significant experience with Treasury and financing transactions
  • Significant experience with Insurance and risk management taxation
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state income tax
  • Strong knowledge of International tax provisions
  • Strong knowledge of Transfer pricing rules
  • Strong knowledge of Treasury operations and corporate finance
  • Experience operating in a complex multinational environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with tax technology and ERP systems such as JD Edwards. SAP, Oracle, OneStream, OneSource Income Tax and Dataflow highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute U.S. tax strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Advise management on the tax implications of business initiatives, legal entity structures, acquisitions, dispositions, and financing arrangements.
  • Evaluate tax-efficient structures for inbound investments and multinational operations.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess their impact on the organization.
  • Lead tax aspects of restructuring, integration, and transformation projects.
  • Oversee preparation and review of U.S. federal income tax returns, state and local tax filings, and international information reporting (Forms 5471, 8858, 8865, 1118, etc.).
  • Provide transfer pricing documentation support.
  • Manage relationships with external advisors and tax service providers.
  • Ensure timely compliance with tax authorities and regulatory agencies.
  • Review current and deferred tax calculations.
  • Support external audit requirements and coordinate with auditors.
  • Ensure effective tax-related internal controls.
  • Partner with Treasury on intercompany financing arrangements, cash repatriation strategies, foreign exchange risk management, cash pooling structures, and debt financing and refinancing transactions.
  • Analyze tax consequences of treasury and capital structure decisions.
  • Review withholding tax obligations and foreign tax credit implications.
  • Support global liquidity management initiatives.
  • Oversee tax aspects of corporate insurance programs.
  • Coordinate with Risk Management and Legal regarding insurance renewals and policy design.
  • Support global insurance compliance requirements and regulatory filings.
  • Evaluate tax consequences of insurance recoveries and risk-transfer structures.
  • Collaborate with global tax teams to maintain transfer pricing compliance.
  • Support implementation of OECD, BEPS, and Pillar Two initiatives, where applicable.
  • Review intercompany agreements and financing arrangements.
  • Assist in defense of tax authority audits and inquiries.
  • Manage federal, state, and international tax audits.
  • Oversee responses to tax authority examinations and information requests.
  • Identify and mitigate tax risks across the enterprise.
  • Establish policies and procedures to support strong tax governance.
  • Lead and develop tax team members.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership.
  • Partner with Finance, Treasury, Legal, Accounting, and external stakeholders.
  • Drive process improvements and technology initiatives within the tax function.
