Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business management, public administration, mathematics, finance or a related field.
  • OR Four (4) or more years’ experience in tax examination/preparation, accounting, auditing, business administration or related field.
  • OR Two (2) years or more of experience as Tax Field Auditor I or Tax Auditor I; or Three (3) years or more of experience as a Tax Examiner III or Tax Analyst II or higher with the State Of Vermont Department Of Taxes.
  • Candidates must agree to be fingerprinted and pass a background check to be eligible for this position, which will involve access to sensitive federal tax information.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and analyzing taxpayer returns
  • Preparing assessments and adjustments to support accurate compliance
  • Communicating with taxpayers and their representatives
  • Participating in appeals and settlement discussions
  • Conducting on site audits when appropriate
