About The Position

Great American Insurance Group, a subsidiary of American Financial Group, is seeking a Tax Analyst to join their AFG Tax Division. This role offers the opportunity to gain exposure to various tax areas including foreign taxation, investment taxation, partnership taxation, and tax technology. The division provides tax advice, analysis, and planning services, and is responsible for compliance and tax controversy resolution. This position is ideal for CPAs transitioning from public accounting or recent graduates looking for an in-house tax role. The company culture emphasizes connection, shared learning, and strong relationships, with employees expected to be on-site four days a week and one day remotely. Core in-office days are Tuesday-Thursday.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related discipline.
  • 0 to 5 years of experience in tax accounting and/or compliance.
  • Experience with tax compliance and provision software, knowledge of Corptax is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, with an understanding of data lookup functions, pivot tables, and macros.
  • General technology experience and curiosity is preferred.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and concisely with internal and external contacts.
  • Desire to learn new, specialized tax material and technology through self-study, research and seminars.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Experience with SharePoint, Tableau, Snowflake, and/or Generative AI models is a plus.
  • Experience in insurance, state and local, partnership, investments and/or foreign taxation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct tax research in connection with current operations, new legislation, and proposed business transactions.
  • Grow professionally and technically through access to senior reviewers, self-study, outside technical training courses, and internal GAI University courses.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of tax technology initiatives.
  • Prepare federal, state and local tax returns for corporations, partnerships, and foreign entities.
  • Complete quarterly tax calculations and consolidation schedules to support financial statement accounting for income taxes and the calculation of quarterly federal and state estimated tax payments.
  • Support implementation of new tax legislation impacting the business.
  • Partner with investment, finance, and management teams to provide tax planning insights.
  • Engage as a team member on projects as they arise.
