About The Position

Wake County Tax Administration is looking for a Tax Analyst to join their team. This role involves performing technical and analytical work supporting quality assurance, data analysis, and reporting within the business and individual personal property program. The team ensures citizens receive fair and accurate assessments and exceptional customer service. The position offers competitive pay, excellent benefits, and job stability. After a training period, there may be an opportunity for a rotating hybrid work schedule. The daily responsibilities will vary but include reviewing appraisal work, analyzing data from tax systems, providing technical guidance to staff, and identifying discrepancies and trends to recommend improvements.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field
  • One year of experience in customer service and/or cashiering
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
  • Knowledge of business and individual personal property listing procedures and appraisal terminology.
  • Demonstrated competence with Microsoft Excel with the ability to develop detailed spreadsheets and tables.
  • Ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret data and reports.
  • Ability to identify discrepancies and trends in data or work products.
  • Advanced critical thinking and project management skills with ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Ability to exercise independent and sound judgment in performing the duties of the position.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Four years of experience working with ad valorem property taxes in North Carolina
  • NCDOR Personal Property Appraiser Certification

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical and analytical work supporting quality assurance, data analysis, and reporting within the business and individual personal property program
  • Review appraisal work, listings, and related records to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with statutes, policies, and procedures
  • Analyze data from tax systems, develop reports, and communicate findings to management
  • Provide technical guidance and support to staff, including training and process improvements
  • Identify discrepancies, analyze trends, and recommend improvements using sound judgment and established guidelines
