About The Position

Werner Enterprises offers an 11-week summer internship program that connects classroom learning with real-world experience. The paid internship includes dedicated job training and learning opportunities and is based at the company’s Corporate Headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska; some remote and off-site opportunities may be available. Interns work in a collaborative, inclusive environment and may receive paid housing or housing assistance. The role requires an accounting major and provides exposure to Workday Financials. The intern supports tax filing, recordkeeping, research, planning, and process-improvement work while collaborating with finance, legal, and operations teams. Development activities include Lessons with Leaders sessions, a mentor program, intern activities, community support events, networking, and a summer project proposal and presentation.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Accounting major required.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

Completion of introductory tax and accounting coursework is preferred.
Exposure to Workday Financials.

Responsibilities

Assist with preparation of sales and use tax filings, property taxes, fuel and miles tax filings, and income tax returns.
Help maintain tax records and documentation for audits and compliance.
Conduct tax research and summarize findings for the tax team.
Participate in special projects related to tax planning and process improvements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including finance, legal, and operations.
Participate in internship development activities, including a summer project proposal and presentation.
