DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position supports the review and correction of individual tax accounts to ensure compliance with Pennsylvania tax laws. Work involves helping to protect the Commonwealth's interests by analyzing tax decisions, resolving issues, and processing important account adjustments.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience reviewing tax documents and applying tax laws and rules and regulations and making taxpayer liability decisions; or Three years of experience in the collection of taxes; or Three year of experience in the provision of taxpayer assistance which involves the explanation of the application of tax laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; or Any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the required knowledges, skills and abilities.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment.
  • Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.

Responsibilities

  • Examine individual tax accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with laws and policies
  • Adjust accounts based on decisions from appeals boards and courts
  • Resolve tax issues while informing taxpayers of their appeal rights
  • Respond to internal and external stakeholders through clear written and verbal communication
  • Handle returned checks and apply related fees through online transactions
  • Prepare refund requests and adjustments based on written taxpayer inquiries
