About The Position

This role involves the layout and installation of drywall beads, preparation of drywall surfaces, mixing and application of joint compound, and finishing and sanding of drywall joints. The Taper Finisher will also be responsible for texturing walls or ceilings, cleaning up the work area, protecting materials, and moving tools and equipment. Additionally, the position requires erecting and dismantling scaffolds, calculating unit costs, arriving at various locations on time, attending company training, and conforming to company policies and procedures. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to learn company safety policies and applicable OSHA standards.
  • Knowledge and ability to use tools, material & equipment in the process of finishing drywall surfaces.
  • Ability to operate automatic taping equipment, banjo, spray equipment, and all other trade tools.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to accurately measure material.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to work on ladders, scaffolds, and stilts.
  • Ability to read (blueprints) plans and specifications.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a team environment, with frequent one-on-one and group interaction.
  • Must be able to lift/carry scrap/clean-up. Requires vertically/horizontally transferring scrap/clean-up weighing up to (25 lbs.) from (1") to (48"), (20/day), a distance of up to (20 feet) without mechanical assistance.
  • Must be able to lift/carry ladder/scaffolding. Requires vertically/horizontally transferring ladder/scaffolding weighing up to (35 lbs.) from (1") to (30"), up to (4/day), a distance of up to (20 feet) without mechanical assistance.
  • Must be able to lift/carry bundle of steel studs. Requires vertically/horizontally transferring bundle of steel studs. Requires vertically/horizontally transferring bundle of steel studs weighing up to (80 lbs.) from (1") to (30"), up to (4/day), a distance of up to (20 feet) without mechanical assistance.
  • Must be able to lift/carry sheet of drywall. Requires vertically/horizontally transferring sheet of drywall weighing (40 lbs.) from (1") to (48"), up to (1/day), a distance of up to (20 feet) without mechanical assistance.
  • Must be able to lift/carry sheet of drywall. Requires vertically/horizontally transferring sheet of drywall weighing ( 80 lbs.) from (1") to ( 48"), up to (1/day), a distance of up to (20 feet) without mechanical assistance.
  • Must be able to lift/carry sheet of drywall. Requires vertically/horizontally transferring sheet of drywall weighing ( 120 lbs.) from (1") to ( 48"), up to (1/day), a distance of up to (20 feet) without mechanical assistance.
  • Must be able to push/pull rock cart. Must horizontally transfer rock cart requiring a force up to (100 lbs.), up to (4/day), a distance up to (30 ft.).
  • Must be able to push/pull rock cart scaffold. Must horizontally transfer scaffold requiring a force up to (50 lbs.), up to (4/day), a distance up to (30 ft.).
  • Must be able to climb ladder/scaffold. Requires climbing stairs up to 40 steps/hr in (8 hrs).
  • Must be able to reach from floor to overhead. Requires repetitive assumption of posture to access a point (80 inches) from the floor up to (400/day).
  • Must be able to stand. Requires tolerance of standing posture up to (4 hr) continuously, for a total of up to (8 hrs) per (8 hrs day).
  • Requires (Near/Far/Depth/Color) vision.
  • Must be able to walk. Requires walking up to (3000.0 ft.), in (1 day).
  • Must be able to lift/carry 50 lb toolbag up and down 3 stairs per 5 min. period.
  • Must be able to safely operate screw gun, rotozip, hammer, gyp knife and tape measure between 15x-50x per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Layout and install drywall beads.
  • Prepare all drywall surfaces to receive drywall finish products.
  • Mix, carry and apply joint compound to drywall finishes.
  • Tape, coat, finish and sand joint compound ready for decoration.
  • Hand or machine texture walls or ceiling per plans and specifications.
  • Clean up, protect, move material, tools & equipment.
  • Erect and dismantle scaffolds.
  • Conform to all safety rules and regulations of the Company and OSHA standards.
  • Calculate unit costs based on quantity of material installed, hours worked and labor dollars.
  • Arrive to work on time at various locations.
  • Attend and participate in all required company training programs.
  • Conform to all company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
