Talent Acquisition Manager

ANVILOttawa, ON
Hybrid

About The Position

As a Talent Acquisition Manager at Anvil, you will own the full-cycle recruitment function that powers our ability to build a team of remarkable individuals. Reporting to the Head of People Operations, you will lead sourcing, hiring, and candidate experience across our engineering, product, and operations teams — bringing in the talent that drives Canada's AI defence future. Alongside your recruiting mandate, you will provide critical support across HR operations, employee lifecycle management, and administrative functions, ensuring our people operations run smoothly as Anvil scales. This is a role built for someone earlier in their TA career who is ready to grow. You will work closely with and be supported by the Head of People Operations, with clear mentorship, structured guidance on new challenges, and a genuine investment in your development. If you have solid recruiting fundamentals and are motivated to expand your skills in a high-stakes, mission-driven environment, this is an exceptional platform to do it. We're looking for someone who shares our belief that leadership is a state of mind, not a job title. You'll thrive here if you embrace "Type 2 fun" — challenges that are difficult in the moment but rewarding in retrospect — and if you're motivated by purpose over profit.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of recruiting or HR experience with exposure to full-cycle recruiting
  • Some experience supporting technical role hiring (software engineers, data scientists, or similar) — depth of experience will inform placement within the salary range
  • Familiarity with HRIS and applicant tracking systems; experience with BambooHR is an asset
  • Experience with LinkedIn Recruiter or similar sourcing platforms
  • Genuine interest in developing sourcing skills and building a career in talent acquisition
  • Sourcing Fundamentals: Working knowledge of candidate identification through job boards and LinkedIn, with eagerness to develop more advanced sourcing techniques.
  • Technical Fluency: Comfortable learning to understand and discuss technical roles credibly.
  • Relationship Building: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust quickly with candidates, hiring managers, and employees alike.
  • Communication: Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills; able to represent Anvil's mission authentically in candidate outreach.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously — balancing active requisitions with HR operations — while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Curiosity & Coachability: Openness to feedback, willingness to learn, and a proactive approach to developing new skills in a fast-moving environment.
  • Discretion: Ability to handle sensitive employee and candidate information appropriately, particularly given our work with defence and national security clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in technology, government, or defence contractor environments
  • Understanding of security clearance processes and requirements
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French
  • CHRP designation or working towards certification
  • Experience with employer branding initiatives or recruitment marketing

Responsibilities

  • Full-Cycle Recruiting: Support and own the end-to-end recruitment process, including job posting creation, sourcing, screening, interview coordination, offer management, and onboarding handoff.
  • Talent Sourcing: Identify and engage candidates through LinkedIn, job boards, and outreach strategies, with guidance on developing passive sourcing capabilities over time.
  • Hiring Manager Partnership: Collaborate with hiring managers to understand role requirements, coordinate interview plans, and support calibration on candidate profiles.
  • Candidate Experience: Champion a positive candidate experience that reflects Anvil's values — ensuring timely communication, transparency, and respect throughout the process.
  • Employer Branding: Contribute to Anvil's employer brand by supporting job description development, careers page content, and representing Anvil at recruiting events.
  • Onboarding Coordination: Support and help execute comprehensive onboarding programs that set new team members up for success from day one.
  • HRIS & Documentation: Maintain employee records, HRIS data integrity, and HR documentation with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Benefits Administration: Support benefits enrollment, employee inquiries, and liaise with benefits providers as needed.
  • Employee Lifecycle Support: Assist with employee changes, leave management, and offboarding processes.
  • Compliance & Process Improvement: Ensure HR activities comply with employment legislation and company policies; contribute ideas to improve processes, tools, and workflows.
  • Operational Support: Provide administrative support to the Head of People Operations across special projects and initiatives.
