About The Position

Oaklawn is currently looking for candidates interested in attending Dealer School focusing on Blackjack. This is a training program designed to equip individuals with the skills necessary to become a Blackjack Dealer. The class will run from October 1, 2026, to November 13, 2026, with auditions to follow. Candidates selected for the Dealer School will attend on their own time and are not considered Team Members of Oaklawn during the training period. The school is free to attend for selected candidates after completing all necessary interviews and tests. Candidates do not receive pay during the training as they are not yet Team Members of Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort. The Dealer School is 6 weeks long, with two class options (AM and PM), held on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The class schedule is either 10:00 am - 2:00 pm or 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The maximum number of candidates allowed to attend the 6-week training period is 15.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Pass an HR Interview.
  • Pass a Math Test.
  • Pass a Department Interview.
  • Excellent skills in both written and oral communication.
  • Must have a positive and upbeat attitude.
  • Must be fast and accurate in handling cash.
  • Must be able to quickly and accurately perform mathematical computations.
  • Must possess good manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to tolerate areas containing secondhand smoke, varying noise and temperature levels, illumination, vibration, crowds and air quality.
  • Must be able to stand for majority of shift.
  • Dress is business casual (no jeans with holes, pajamas, shorts, leggings, flip flops, hats, facial piercings, gauges, etc.).
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates dismissed from class due to exceeding 2 points may attend a future class, but must re-apply and re-interview.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Dealer School Attendance Policy (no more than 3 absences over the duration of the class).
  • Maintain a positive and upbeat attitude during dealer school.
  • Handle cash quickly and accurately.
  • Quickly and accurately perform mathematical computations when determining winners and losers and collecting and paying out bets.
  • Handle chips, cards, and money with good manual dexterity for quick and accurate handling.
  • Tolerate areas containing secondhand smoke, varying noise and temperature levels, illumination, vibration, crowds, and air quality.
  • Stand for the majority of the shift.
  • Work weekends and holidays if offered a position.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state, and local regulations.
