About The Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to support the SLCM-N program, with a primary focus on safety systems engineering. The role is suited to a candidate with a mechanical engineering background and approximately 4–5 years of safety engineering experience, preferably supporting Department of Defense programs. The engineer will work with multidisciplinary engineering teams to identify and assess hazards, integrate safety requirements into system designs, and develop evidence for safety verification and reviews. The position may be performed on-site or in a flex arrangement, with required on-site presence in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The role includes developing and maintaining safety requirements, hazard analyses, and supporting documentation; evaluating mechanical designs and interfaces for hazards and safety implications; and collaborating with engineering, integration, and test teams to implement and verify mitigations. The engineer will maintain traceability from hazards through requirements and mitigation measures to verification evidence, assess design changes, prepare safety review packages, and support Weapon System Safety Review Board (WSRB) activities. Applicants need a relevant engineering degree and experience in safety engineering, hazard identification, risk assessment, failure analysis, systems engineering practices, and technical documentation. U.S. citizenship is required. A Department of Defense Secret clearance must be obtainable after hire; applicants are subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and eligibility requirements for classified information access. The combined salary range is USD $112,924.00–$125,275.00 per year. Actual pay may vary based on experience and other factors, including geographic location. The posting remains open until the position is filled. General Dynamics Mission Systems describes its benefits as highly competitive and its work environment as flexible, with contributions recognized and rewarded.
