About The Position

Metric Engineering is looking for a System Integrator III to join our Lake Mary office! This role supports the deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Tolling Operations technology. You will help install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair transportation technology equipment. This equipment may include: Layer 2 switches Network devices and communication cables CCTV cameras Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) Vehicle detection devices Highway Advisory Radios (HAR) Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS) Travel Time Systems (TTS) Wireless Access Points (WAP) Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) equipment Traffic signal controllers Projects may involve agencies such as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), counties, cities, or expressway authorities. You will work as part of project‑based, multidisciplinary teams and interact with clients during meetings, reviews, and system testing.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related field and 5–7 years of experience preferred.
  • Must have experience with ITS or tolling operations, communications technology, fiber optics, video systems, traveler information systems, electronic payment systems, and traffic control systems.
  • Strong understanding of FDOT policies, specifications, and ITS/tolling practices.
  • Strong understanding of Layer 2 networking.
  • Solid knowledge of fiber optic technology as used in ITS, traffic signals, and tolling deployments.
  • IMSA Level II Advanced MOT (within 1 year of hire)
  • CompTIA A+ (within 1 year of hire)
  • CompTIA Network+ (within 1 year of hire)
  • CompTIA Security+ (within 1 year of hire)
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to clearly explain technical concepts.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Outlook.
  • Able to use field equipment such as voltmeters and other testing tools.
  • Strong data analysis and problem‑solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Complete assignments from the Integration Project Manager or project lead.
  • Work with minimal supervision and use good judgment to meet project goals.
  • Handle a variety of technical tasks that require creativity and independent thinking.
  • Apply engineering and planning principles to solve ITS and tolling issues.
  • Help install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain Layer 2 switches, cabinet devices, and network cabling with support from the Senior Network Engineer.
  • Troubleshoot ITS, tolling, and traffic signal cabinet devices, including UPS units, device servers, MMUs, and field equipment.
  • Assist in developing and reviewing test plans, reviewing OTDR test results, and tracking logs.
  • Read and interpret plans for integration projects.
  • Perform standard testing on equipment and document results.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot workstations, servers, and software as needed.
