Systems Engineering Manager

Apex Capital CorpFort Worth, TX
Hybrid

About The Position

At Apex Capital, we’ve spent over 30 years building and operating financial technology infrastructure that keeps the transportation industry moving. Our systems process real-time transactions, support thousands of clients, and run at a scale that demands engineering precision and operational discipline. We’re looking for a Systems Engineering Manager who brings both technical credibility and leadership depth - someone who can keep a skilled infrastructure team running at its best while driving the systems that underpin everything we do. This role is based in Fort Worth, TX and operates on a hybrid schedule with an average of four on-site days per week, therefore candidates should be local to the Dallas-Fort Worth area or willing to relocate. Apex Capital does not sponsor applicants for work visas. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Requirements

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Bring 7+ years of progressive experience in systems engineering, infrastructure, or a related technical discipline.
  • Have demonstrated experience leading technical teams across diverse roles and skill levels, including senior individual contributors, with a track record of building culture and managing performance.
  • Are a strong communicator across all levels — able to translate technical topics for non-technical audiences and represent infrastructure needs credibly in cross-functional settings.
  • Can make sound, independent decisions under pressure — weighing tradeoffs and escalating with recommendations rather than open problems.
  • Have experience operating in hybrid on-premises and cloud environments across compute, network, storage, and platform domains.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience contributing to or implementing compliance frameworks such as SOC 2.
  • Familiarity with ITSM or operational frameworks such as ITIL.
  • Experience building or maturing change management, incident response, or DR processes.
  • Supervisory or formal people management experience in a technical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and advocate for the infrastructure team — setting clear expectations, managing performance, and creating an environment where technical and professional skills are continuously developed across a team spanning site reliability, platform engineering, systems, and infrastructure architecture.
  • Maintain active, hands-on involvement in the design, implementation, and operation of enterprise infrastructure across on-premises and hybrid cloud environments, ensuring systems are stable, highly available, redundant, scalable, and secure.
  • Drive large-scale infrastructure initiatives from planning through delivery — leading technical reviews, contributing to architecture planning, managing timelines and resource allocation, and ensuring execution aligns with standards set by the Enterprise Architect.
  • Translate business objectives into technical strategies; collaborate cross-functionally with security, database, software engineering, desktop support, and the Enterprise Architect, and communicate progress, risks, and recommendations to leadership with clarity and consistency.
  • Own compliance adherence for applicable frameworks including SOC 2, and formalize operational disciplines — change management, incident response, disaster recovery, and capacity planning — so the team operates with structured, repeatable processes.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation plans augmented by generous profit sharing and regular salary reviews.
  • Multiple high quality health care plans to choose from with a short waiting period.
  • Choice of high quality medical, dental, vision, life, short and long-term disability coverage with a short waiting period.
  • In addition to 9 paid holidays, generous PTO allotment that increases with tenure.
  • Combined mental health support and work-life services partner to create a robust Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is included at no cost to you and your family members ages 6+.
  • 401(k) plan with Apex matched contributions.
  • Tuition reimbursement for college, plus plenty of Apex managed training classes.
  • 360⁰ feedback, leadership training, and a culture that empowers individuality.
  • Access to on-site fitness facilities available through a paid membership and gym reimbursement program.
  • Rewards driven wellness program with an individualized holistic approach.
  • Connected, friendly work environment.
  • We celebrate our accomplishments (and birthdays).
  • Complimentary fresh fruit, snacks, and beverages provided onsite.
  • Paid maternity and other company paid leave benefits giving the time and flexibility needed to care for yourself and/or family.
  • Profit sharing
