About The Position

Veilant is seeking a Systems Engineer to build, deploy, secure, and maintain mission-focused infrastructure across Linux, networking, virtualization, cloud, security, and automation environments. The role focuses primarily on Linux administration and common network troubleshooting, with support for physical, virtualized, and cloud infrastructure in collaboration with experienced engineers. The engineer should be technically curious, exercise sound judgment, follow through on work, investigate common issues, and know when to bring in additional expertise. The position involves deploying and administering primarily Debian and Ubuntu Linux systems according to established standards and peer review, while also helping support a smaller Windows footprint. The engineer will work alongside virtualization engineers to support VMware environments, assist with cloud infrastructure, investigate connectivity issues with Network Engineering, and support secure connectivity changes and investigations with Network Engineering and Security Operations. The role also partners with DevOps and other specialists to harden systems, automate repetitive work, improve monitoring, and create useful technical documentation. During the first six months, the successful candidate is expected to learn the environment, own routine work on assigned systems, and contribute to complex changes with support. They should be able to deploy hardened Linux systems using established security and operational standards, explain system dependencies and risks, contribute to cross-domain investigations, identify improvements, assist with automation and monitoring, and produce documentation other engineers can use. Veilant describes its work environment as collaborative, technically challenging, and supportive of work-life balance, with flexible remote work options. A technical 24x7 Network and Security Operations Center monitors the environment, helping reduce constant on-call pressure. Employees may choose a MacBook, Windows, or Linux laptop. The company also mentions social activities such as board games and Xbox gaming.
