Systems Engineer

ASM Research•Germantown, MD

About The Position

The Systems Engineer serves as a technical authority for systems engineering services supporting the Office of Information Management (OIM) and the Office of Science (SC) mission systems. The role covers the full system lifecycle, from planning and design through secure integration, transition to operations, and continuous optimization, while ensuring alignment with Department of Energy (DOE) cybersecurity requirements and SC lifecycle methodologies. The engineer designs and documents enterprise IT solutions across cloud, on-premise, and hybrid environments; develops secure integration plans, configuration baselines, and architecture artifacts; and provides engineering oversight for major initiatives. The role also serves as an escalation point for complex systems issues, coordinates support during outages and maintenance, and collaborates with cybersecurity, operations, and application teams to resolve problems and optimize performance. The position contributes to planning and designing platforms, evaluating and integrating new technologies, and innovation initiatives to improve scalability, resilience, and security. It also maintains systems documentation and user guides, mentors junior team members, and applies scripting methodologies to automate related tasks.
