About The Position

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Systems Engineer SME to support our Huntsville, AL location. This role involves supervising, coordinating, and performing additions and changes to network hardware, infrastructure server environments, and operating systems. The position requires direct support in the day-to-day operations of network hardware and operating systems, including evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time, and primary support for detecting and correcting operational problems. The Systems Engineer SME will troubleshoot at the physical and logical levels of the network, working with communication protocols and measurement hardware/software. Participation in planning, design, technical review, and implementation for new network infrastructure hardware and operating systems for voice and data communication networks is also a key function. The role includes performing systems management and integration functions, exhibiting proficiency with virtualization technologies and network administration, and maintaining network infrastructure standards including TCP/IP. Technical consultation, training, and support to IT staff as designated by the government are required, as well as diagnosing and resolving complex communication problems. The position is responsible for the design, deployment, evaluation, testing, certification, patching, and addressing interoperability issues of storage and backup systems, including all features, components, and application dependencies. Ensuring systems are current with approved patches, assisting with certification and system accreditation tasks, and composing SOPs and Quick Reference guides are also part of the responsibilities. This role provides top-level technical expertise responsible for the design and development of a client/server environment, developing strategy for client/server systems and the necessary infrastructure design. The individual will advise on the selection of technological purchases related to processing, data storage, data access, and application development, and set standards for the client/server relational database structure for the organization. Advising management on the feasibility of potential future projects is also expected.

Requirements

  • 10 years of experience
  • Microsoft Windows, Active Directory
  • Understanding of NIST 800 series publications and Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) compliance
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • An active DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility is required to perform this work. Candidates are required to have an active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility upon hire, and the ability to maintain this level of clearance during their employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coordinate and/or design, develop and perform additions and changes to network hardware, infrastructure server environments, and operating systems, and attached devices, including investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new network hardware and software.
  • Provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems including the evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems.
  • Troubleshoot at the physical level of the network, working with network measurement hardware and software, as well as physical checking and testing of hardware devices at the logical level working with communication protocols.
  • Participate in planning design, technical review and implementation for new network infrastructure hardware and network operating systems for voice and data communication networks.
  • Perform systems management and integration functions.
  • Maintain network infrastructure standards including network communication protocols such as TCP/IP.
  • Provide technical consultation, training and support to IT staff as designated by the government.
