Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world. Raytheon is looking for a Systems Engineer to support the Transformation & Initiatives (T&I) department. The T&I department provides subject matter support focusing on driving affordability, process improvement, and cost-informed decision-making initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of systems engineering practices. The Systems Engineer will report to the Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RMD) Affordability Engineering section within the T&I Department. This role supports affordability, Design-to-Unit Production Cost (DTUPC), and life cycle cost activities across munitions, radar, and sensor programs. The Systems Engineer is an established professional contributor who works with limited supervision on moderately complex assignments, supporting affordability, DTUPC, and life cycle cost activities across planning, design, production, and sustainment phases, while collaborating with engineering, program management, manufacturing, and supply chain teams and receiving guidance from senior affordability engineers. This position is located onsite in Marlborough, MA.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting one or more of the following: Production or life-cycle cost modeling, Affordability or cost trade studies, Design-to-cost activities or cost parametric modeling or Total ownership or life-cycle cost analysis.
  • Experience supporting proposal development or program execution activities.
  • Experience communicating cost and affordability analysis results to engineering and program stakeholders.
  • Experience with developing, documenting, or supporting processes, methods, or tools.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with affordability or cost engineering tools such as ACEIT, SEER, TruePlanning, ProPricer or price analysis tools.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of affordability trade studies, cost-informed decision-making, and Life Cycle Cost (LCC) concepts (CAIV familiarity a plus).
  • Familiarity with bills of material (BOMs), work breakdown structures (WBS), or manufacturing assemblies.
  • Familiarity with production environments and supply chain processes.
  • Background in data analytics with experience using tools such as Excel, Power Query, Power BI, Python, R, or SQL.
  • Familiarity with effector, radar, sensor, or munition systems (preferred, not required).
  • Awareness of affordability analysis activities aligned with evolving DoD contracting approaches, including Section 890 concepts.
  • Prior experience in a regulated aerospace or defense environment.
  • Background in Estimating and Pricing or Finance.

Responsibilities

  • Support and apply affordability analysis techniques, cost modeling, and trade studies under the guidance of senior affordability engineers to support system affordability while meeting mission performance requirements.
  • Support the affordability of various systems and products throughout their life cycle.
  • Contribute to affordability solutions as part of a cross-functional team, supporting pre-production, production, and sustainment affordability efforts.
  • Work closely with program management, systems engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain organizations to support the Raytheon Affordability Process.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and execution of DTUPC, production cost, and life-cycle cost models under supervision, aligned to program objectives.
  • Assist with affordability trade studies, cost assessments, and design-to-cost activities.
  • Apply affordability and cost-performance trade study principles, including Cost as an Independent Variable (CAIV) and Life Cycle Cost (LCC) concepts, with guidance in support of system and program decisions.
  • Support supplier cost analysis, hardware cost estimating, and production learning assessments.
  • Assist with proposal development, affordability inputs, and cost narratives.
  • Prepare and communicate cost and affordability analysis results to engineering and program stakeholders with support from senior team members.
  • Support documentation, improvement, and standardization of affordability processes, methods, and tools.
  • Collaborate with and learn from senior affordability engineers while contributing to team objectives.
