About The Position

A Systems Architect works under limited direction from the IS manager. This level is staffed by individuals with either the experience or the educational background to qualify them to perform tasks independently and carry out the general direction of the department’s goals set forth by their manager. The Systems Architect will be specialists in several large systems areas, and/or may integrate several technologies into a larger complex system. They are typically systems experts in several areas and offer instruction and direction to other staff. They utilize customer input and business knowledge to analyze, design, and integrate, large complex software systems, recommending workflow/process changes. A Systems Architect can create advanced scripting and integration processes between disparate systems. They may modify, test and inspect other 3rd party software. They fully document all stages of the application development lifecycle, with excellent internal script/code documentation. They can and may lead large development teams. They will be able to provide technical and procedural guidance to other team members. Often, they will act as a liaison between customers and the team or team members. The Cerner Applications team supports, builds, and maintains critical clinical and operational workflows within the Cerner Millennium electronic health record. This role partners closely with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to ensure safe, effective, and efficient system functionality across inpatient and ambulatory settings. Team members specialize in configuration, build, testing, troubleshooting, and ongoing optimization of Cerner applications that directly support patient care, provider workflow, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years relevant experience (IS/Business or healthcare) OR Associate's degree and 4 years relevant experience (IS/Business or healthcare) OR 6 years relevant experience (IS/Business or healthcare)
  • Employees must be vaccinated or have lab confirmed immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella.
  • Employees must receive a flu vaccine during the flu season in the year that they are hired and annually thereafter, or receive an approved medical or religious exemption.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and maintain organizational, facility, location, and position builds within Cerner
  • Manage role-based access, security privileges, and preferences to ensure appropriate user access
  • Build and maintain MPage components, message center pools, referral management, and event set hierarchies
  • Support new user account creation, inactivation, and access troubleshooting
  • Maintain system code sets and resolve taxonomy, NPI, and place-of-service issues
  • Build and support PowerForms, iView, DocSets, Smart Templates, and AutoText used for clinical documentation
  • Configure and maintain clinical rules such as admission rules, documentation rules, and clinical event rules
  • Support specialized clinical solutions including: FirstNet and ED LaunchPoint, SurgiNet and Anesthesia, Women’s Health (PowerChart Maternity), Behavioral Health
  • Support clinical profiles and documentation structures such as allergies, problems, diagnoses, medication reconciliation, growth charts, discharge workflows, and patient education
  • Build and maintain orders, order sentences, order entry formats, CareSets, PowerPlans, and related rules
  • Support task lists, order-to-task linking, and documentation workflows
  • Maintain clinical and operational tools such as Quick Visits, Folder structures, CareCompass, and Care Management workflows
  • Support medication administration, specimen collection scanning, immunizations, inventory management, and 340B workflows
  • Partner with ancillary systems (PharmNet, PathNet, RadNet) and support order routing to scheduling
  • Assist with investigation and resolution of charge-related and downstream workflow issues
