About The Position

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) at the University of Iowa is seeking to hire either a Systems Analyst or Systems Administrator to support geographic information systems (GIS) across the college and university. This role will collaborate with the Senior GIS Administrator to provide technical support to various departments, including CLAS TS and ITS. The position will be based within CLAS TS but housed with the School of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability (SEES), offering instructional, technical, and hardware support for GIS and geospatial data. The specific title (Analyst or Administrator) will depend on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Applicants are asked to indicate their preferred position in their cover letter.

Requirements

• Academic or Professional related experience working with geospatial data and software including ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
• Demonstrates excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors at a working proficiency level.
• For Systems Analyst: A Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Computer Science, Geographic Information Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
• For Systems Administrator: 3 years Academic or Professional related experience working with geospatial data and software including ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
• For Systems Administrator: MA/MS in Geography, Computer Science, Geographic Information Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

• For Systems Analyst: MA/MS in Geography, Computer Science, Geographic Information Science or related field.
• Working experience with the management, deployment, and support of common GIS and remote sensing software (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS and Erdas Imagine).
• Academic or Professional related experience working with or supporting specialized geospatial data and software including QGIS, Erdas Imagine, etc.
• Working experience with providing introductory workshops or training related to GIS software and technology.
• Working experience with troubleshooting in a GIS IT environment.
• Working experience with the management of spatial, temporal, or spatiotemporal data.

Responsibilities

• Perform geospatial data analysis techniques as needed to support faculty, staff, and students.
• Provide on-call coverage for routine problems and assist Senior GIS Administrator with more complex issues.
• Develop workflows and documentation to better manage and support systems.
• Provide technical and administrative support for instructors and students for courses, labs, programs, centers, and/or studios, potentially including support for classroom technologies.
• Coordinate and provide instruction as directed, including instructing on the safe operation of equipment.
• Develop materials for GIS trainings and assist with trainings/teaching as needed.
