About The Position

Modern Government Solutions LLC (MGS) is seeking a Systems Administrator (IT & Network Support) to provide onsite IT operations support for Blue Water Instrumentation (BWI) at Naval Base Ventura County (Point Mugu Sea Range). This role is responsible for maintaining and securing operational IT infrastructure, supporting Department of the Navy (DoN) network integration, and administering internal IT environments in a controlled DoD setting. The position serves as the primary interface between program personnel and Navy IT services while ensuring compliance with cybersecurity requirements, CMMC Level 2 controls, and corporate IT policies. The Systems Administrator plays a critical role in ensuring reliable, secure, and compliant IT operations in support of RDT&E activities, enabling mission execution through effective system administration, user support, and infrastructure management.

Requirements

  • Must possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of IT administration experience in a DoD environment, including support to Department of the Navy networks or installations.
  • Hands-on experience with NMCI and/or NGEN-Next environments, including account management and service request processes.
  • Working knowledge of DoD and DoN cybersecurity frameworks, including RMF, DISA STIGs, and NIST SP 800-53/800-171.
  • Experience supporting CMMC Level 2 requirements and CUI handling in a defense contractor environment.
  • Experience administering Microsoft 365 GCC-High, Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).
  • Experience configuring and maintaining Windows 10/11 systems using DISA STIG baselines.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management tools and processes (e.g., ACAS/Nessus).
  • DoD 8140 compliant certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent) at time of hire.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to support both technical and non-technical users.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting RDT&E or test range environments within Navy or DoD programs.
  • Familiarity with Navy network architectures, range systems, or classified network environments.
  • Experience with NinjaOne or similar RMM platforms and endpoint security tools.
  • Experience with enterprise password management tools in a secure environment.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, Microsoft Azure Administrator, or equivalent.
  • Experience with Linux system administration in addition to Windows environments.
  • Advanced cybersecurity certifications (e.g., CISSP, CASP+, CISM).
  • Experience supporting audio/video conferencing systems and collaboration platforms.
  • Prior military service or defense contractor experience supporting Navy IT environments.
  • Experience supporting CMMC assessments or cybersecurity audits.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary onsite IT liaison for NMCI/NGEN-Next services, including account provisioning, access management, and issue resolution.
  • Coordinate with Navy organizations and service providers to support network connectivity, service delivery, and operational requirements.
  • Provide Tier 1/Tier 2 helpdesk support for DoN network environments and escalate issues through appropriate channels.
  • Manage CAC-enabled systems, user permissions, and access to DoN enterprise services in compliance with applicable policies.
  • Track and resolve IT service requests using Navy service portals, ensuring timely support aligned with program needs.
  • Configure, deploy, and maintain Windows 10/11 systems using DISA STIG baselines and endpoint management tools.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 GCC-High, Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) environments.
  • Deploy and manage software, endpoint configurations, and patching activities in accordance with configuration management policies.
  • Monitor endpoint health and performance using RMM tools and document actions for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot user hardware, peripherals, and IT equipment.
  • Maintain IT asset inventory, lifecycle tracking, and equipment accountability.
  • Execute onboarding and offboarding processes, including system provisioning, access control, and equipment management.
  • Support cybersecurity and compliance activities, including RMF coordination, vulnerability remediation, and system documentation.
  • Install, configure, and maintain local IT infrastructure, including networks, wireless systems, and collaboration tools.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network connectivity, VPN access, and site-to-site communications.
  • Manage backup operations and verify data integrity in alignment with continuity and recovery requirements.
  • Support cloud and enterprise environments, including Azure Gov and GCC-High, under ISSO direction.
  • Provide IT support for meetings, test events, and operational activities, including audio/video systems.
  • Maintain documentation for system configurations, network diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
  • Work in a combination of office, laboratory, and field environments and provide hands-on support to users and systems.
  • Lift and move IT equipment up to 50 lbs and support extended hours or mission requirements as needed.
