About The Position

The Systems Administrator maintains multi-user computer systems and supports their smooth operation, coordinating with network administrators as needed. The role installs, configures, maintains, and tunes Oracle Sun Server X4 Series and x86 systems running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), including virtualized servers. It also supports server and desktop commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), agent, and government off-the-shelf (GOTS) applications. The administrator manages system accounts and documentation, allocates computing and storage resources, monitors resource-use policies and standards, and supports hardware and software purchasing, installation, backup, and recovery. The role troubleshoots complex hardware, software, networking, and application issues, identifies root causes, coordinates changes, and maintains VMware virtualized server environments, hosts, and virtual machines.

Requirements

DOD 8570-compliant IAT Level II certification.
Active TS/SCI clearance.

Responsibilities

Maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems and coordinate with network administrators.
Recommend hardware and software purchases, coordinate installation, and provide backup recovery.
Develop and monitor policies and standards for allocating and using computing resources.
Set up administrator and service accounts; maintain system documentation; tune system performance; install system-wide software; and allocate mass storage space.
Install, configure, and maintain Oracle Sun Server X4 Series and x86 systems running RHEL, including virtualized servers.
Identify, analyze, and resolve complex hardware, software, networking, and application problems; determine root causes, follow up, and coordinate changes.
Ensure backups complete successfully and perform backup restores.
Assist with maintaining virtualized server environments using VMware.
Create and configure hosts and virtual machines and allocate system resources as required.
Maintain and patch existing hosts and virtual machines using VMware COTS products.
Support server and desktop COTS, agents, and GOTS applications.
