About The Position

The Systems Administrator III will support the Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I)/Information Technology (IT) electronic systems equipment, infrastructure, engineering, design, installation, and Supply and Warehouse support to Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC Pacific) during design, installation, configuration, and transition to operations of the IT infrastructure for multiple facilities throughout the period of performance. Services required include design, installation, termination, test, and documentation of desktop devices, peripherals, IT cable plant, rack, power distribution units (PDU) and incident to the installation of C4I/IT electronic systems, installation of C4I/IT electronic systems equipment as assigned and in accordance with government installation design plans (IDP), the NIWC Pacific Shore Installation Process Handbook (SIPH) and project sponsor processes and associated logistical support. The work described herein is conducted within existing classified office spaces, IT data centers, IT telecommunications spaces or other spaces designated to house C4I/IT electronics systems equipment and newly constructed secure building. Technical requirements are applicable across multiple United States Space Command (USSC) and USSC Component Command Locations in the Colorado Springs area. The Systems Administrator III administers and supports daily operational requirements of computer network systems including workstation, file servers, and web servers. Duties typically involve the installation of hardware, software, systems upgrades, network accounts, network security, and web page design, interface and updates, and local system design documentation. Maintains, troubleshoots, and implements network security tools including firewalls, anti-virus, and intrusion detection services. Trains staff on software applicable to their position, assists customers with information technology, monitors system configuration (hardware and software), and provides instruction on computers and applications. Technical requirements are applicable across multiple United States Space Command (USSC) and USSC Component Command Locations in the Colorado Springs area. Requirements

  • The ability to obtain, maintain and access classified information at the TS/SCI (Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information) level.
  • Requires access to SCI data and spaces must possess a current SSBI/T5 with ICD 704 eligibility (which replaced DCID 6/4 eligibility).
  • May be designated system administrators for systems that are accredited to process NATO classified data at government facilities and will be required to be NATO read-on.

  • Monitoring, maintaining, installing, and supporting networked servers, computer systems, and peripheral equipment.
  • Applying Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) to machines and NIWC Pacific lab spaces.
  • Configuring and executing ACAS scans (Tenable – Assured Computing Assessment Solution).
  • Configuring and executing security policy via HBSS (Host based security system).
  • Managed anti-virus solutions.
  • Ability to administer highly reliable systems solutions for delivering required business capabilities.
  • Ability to ensure security compliance of multiple system environments by using Industry Standards and best practices.
  • Understanding of DOD Cyber policies and directives.
  • It is expected the CWF (DOD Cyber Workforce) directives will be maintained up to date with respect to certifications.
  • All personnel working under this task will at some time handle, produce or process Critical Information or Critical Program Information, and therefore must practice OPSEC.
  • Provides adequate security for all CUI and Unclassified DoD information passing through non-DoD information system including all subcontractor information systems utilized on contract.

  • Master's degree in computer science, information technology or a related discipline, and minimum seven (7) years of relevant experience as specified below, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Six (6) years maintaining Windows or Linux-based workstations and servers and three (3) years of experience enforcing DOD cyber security policy.

Responsibilities

  • Installs new servers, storage and maintains the server infrastructure by applying the relevant STIGs
  • Configures and executes ACAS scans (Tenable – Assured Computing Assessment Solution)
  • Configures and executes security policy via HBSS (Host based security system) and managing anti-virus solutions.
  • Provides asset management and assists as required with documentation in support of accreditation (RMF – risk management framework).
  • Troubleshoots server problems as reported by users and for complex hardware, software and network problems.
  • Provides multiple baselines of operating system configurations and images to support projects in different phases of development.
  • Implements and monitors security measures for the protection of computer systems, networks and information.
  • Maintains a secure systems environment.
  • Provides new hardware specifications to users based on application needs and anticipated growth.
  • Implements software patches, firmware and security fixes as required for security compliance.
  • Defines procedures for monitoring systems.
  • Evaluates, diagnoses and establishes work plan to resolve system issues.
  • Manages and oversees all operating systems and their corresponding or associated software.
  • Manages communications and connection solutions, including local area networks, intranet and internet applications.
  • Assists with the design and implementation of disaster recovery plan for on premises and cloud hosted operating systems, databases, networks, servers and software applications.
  • Assesses system reconfiguration needs (minor or significant) and executes required course of action.
  • Manages and ensures the integrity of host computers and other networked devices.
  • Administers/maintains end-user accounts, permissions and access rights.
  • Performs network and security audits.
  • Performs system backups.
  • Analyzes system or application usage relative to planned growth, anticipated needs and system and storage capacity.
  • Develops, implements and maintains policies, procedures and training plans for system administration and appropriate use.
  • Practices network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory, related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Monitors and tests server software performance.
  • Provides statistics and reports.
  • Assist as required with documentation in support of accreditation (RMF – risk management framework)
  • Patch management solutions and implementation of Operating System patches and firmware.
  • Attends meetings classified up to Top Secret/SCI level.
  • Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.
  • Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers.
  • Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources.
