Integrity, Inspiration, Quality and Teamwork! General Responsibility System Support will be required to report consistent baggage jams that occur within the baggage handling system. Operators are responsible for removing items that cause jams and will be required to perform physical baggage handling in the event of system failures. Other responsibilities include manual handling, coding bags, cleaning of system, replenishing tub supplies at induction points and monitoring bags to keep them flowing properly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 0-2 years of work experience in baggage handling systems and/or automated systems in material handling industries operations and maintenance
  • Ability to work rotating shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain airport security clearance
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.; stand, kneel, and bend for long periods
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Track record of dependability
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Software documentation experience
  • IT network and communication knowledge
  • Competencies in objective analysis and development

Responsibilities

  • Primary function is to induct bags onto the Baggage System.
  • Ensure smooth running of systems by attending to jams IMMEDIATELY and making sure the system is not damaged after removing items that caused jam.
  • Monitor and clear any blockages that prevent the flow of baggage.
  • Manually scan bags that arrive at the manual encoding station. If bags are not scanning correctly, follow up with the Control Room.
  • Remove out-of-gauge bags (phone control room) and at the same time prevent bags from causing system issues.
  • Monitor the level of tubs in check-in and transfer and replenish when necessary.
  • Define and report problem/damaged tubs to Shift Supervisor/Control Room Operator.
  • Physical baggage handling in the event of system failures.
  • Assisting technicians in doing repairs.
  • Cleaning baggage handling system equipment.
  • Carry out other assignments as requested from management or Shift Supervisors.
