About The Position

The System / Software Engineer II designs, develops, troubleshoots, and debugs software for enhancements and new products. The role develops software and considers hardware compatibility and design. Working within an established framework and with moderate supervision, the engineer applies intermediate subject matter expertise to solve common technical problems and provides analysis and recommendations as an informed team member. The position focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining backend services and APIs, primarily in Python and Go. The engineer owns features and fixes throughout their lifecycle, from design and implementation through code review, automated testing, deployment, and operational support. Collaboration includes product management, QA, DevOps, and device engineering teams. Approved AI development tools may be used for coding, testing, debugging, and code exploration, while the engineer remains responsible for correctness, security, and maintainability. The role is designed as onsite, with the expectation that the employee will primarily work from an HPE office.

Requirements

Experience developing production software in Python and/or Go.
Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, complexity analysis, concurrency, and modular software design.
Experience building backend APIs and asynchronous services, including error handling, timeouts, retries, and failure recovery.
Knowledge of SQL, data modeling, and relational databases.
Experience with Git, code reviews, unit and integration testing, and CI/CD.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
Typically 3+ years of experience.
Knowledge of software systems design tools and languages.
Ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to design software systems running on multiple platform types.
Knowledge of software systems testing methodology, including executing test plans, debugging, and using testing scripts and tools.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, mastery of English and the local language, and ability to communicate design proposals and negotiate options.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with caching or NoSQL systems.
Familiarity with cloud services and containerized applications, such as AWS and Docker.
Problem-solving and communication skills, including the ability to investigate unfamiliar systems and follow work through to completion.
Experience with cloud and distributed platforms, including AWS services such as S3, DynamoDB, RDS/Aurora, SQS, and IAM; Kubernetes and Helm; Kafka, Redis, and OpenSearch.
Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or comparable coding assistants, including reviewing generated code, verifying behavior through tests, and protecting sensitive information.
Understanding of microservices architecture, API contracts, and synchronous/asynchronous service-to-service communication.
