About The Position

Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for a System Safety Engineer to support STRIKE/Advanced Fires Project Office in Huntsville, AL. System Safety Engineer will identify , analyze, and control hazards across the weapon system lifecycle to prevent injury or equipment damage, ensuring compliance with DoD and Army standards, specifically MIL-STD-882E. This position will perform risk assessments, develop safety requirements, and evaluate hardware supporting PM SHIELD portfolio. It requires the application of: advanced mathematical techniques; professional engineering principles, methods, and techniques; safety related elements of the physical sciences, ergonomics, and safety principles, standards, practices, and analytical techniques.

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university and at least 15 year's experience on large complex Dod systems.
  • Must have an Active Secret clearance and the ability to maintain a clearance.
  • If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AR 385-10, AR 385-16, AR 770-3, and AMCOM 385-17, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Army Safety Board processes and preparation, preferred.
  • Experience conducting hazard analyses (PHA, FHA, SHA, SSHA, O&SHA, EHA, HHA, FTA, FMEA) , preferred.
  • Proficiency with safety tools and databases (e.g., hazard tracking systems, model-based systems engineering, requirement databases) , preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience effectively leading a team of engineers, preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience accurately estimating the engineering effort (i.e. hours) associated with System Safety Engineering tasks, preferred.
  • Understanding of the DoD acquisition processes and methods, preferred.
  • Experience supporting one or more DoD programs, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with design, test, and integration IPTs to embed safety requirements into system architecture and operational concepts.
  • Interface with Army safety boards, review panels, and Weapon Safety Working Groups.
  • Develop and implement safety requirements to eliminate or mitigate risks associated with hardware, software, or human error.
  • Advise on system safety requirements based on historical failure data, software failure analysis, and failure mode analysis of such factors as fatigue, stability, and stress.
  • Conduct Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), System Safety Hazard Analysis (SSHA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) to identify risk.
  • Review design, participate in software safety testing, and validate safety measures at test sites.
  • Support Safety Release processes for test events, including live-fire and flight testing.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action planning for safety-related incidents or anomalies.
  • Support development of System Safety Program Plans (SSPP), Safety Verification Plans, and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR).
