About The Position

The System Realization and Resilience group (KBR) within the Force Projection Sector (FPS) at The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab (APL) is responsible for enabling the realization of strategic systems, ensuring resilience and specialty disciplines are integrated throughout system development, and supporting credible verification of strategic weapon systems. They lead efforts in systems engineering, system security engineering, test and integration, digital engineering, nuclear command and control, and reliability engineering. As a member of this team, you will provide systems engineering expertise to inform the technical direction of existing and future strategic weapons systems. This role is for a 2027 Graduate interested in applying system engineering principles to influence the development and resilience of future strategic weapon systems and working on multidisciplinary teams to address strategic deterrent challenges. The engineer will provide systems engineering expertise to guide the design, development, and evaluation of strategic weapon systems, participate as a systems engineer on various projects focusing on requirements development, analysis, concept/technology development, acquisition, test planning and execution, system evaluation, and risk assessments across the program lifecycle, employ system engineering methodologies and analyses such as model based systems engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering (DE) to enable the development of strategic weapon systems, and deliver formal reports and presentations to sponsors and supporting contractors, and effectively communicate proposed concepts/solutions and analysis results.

Requirements

  • Possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related technical field.
  • Have interest in Systems Engineering and/or Specialty Engineering domains.
  • Are willing and able to travel periodically, including short duration visits to sponsor offices at the Washington Navy Yard and to supporting contractor sites, as well as occasional travel to other military bases across the country.
  • Able to obtain a Secret security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret clearance.
  • Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience and/or internships applying systems engineering principles.
  • Familiarity or experience using Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools like Cameo/Magic Draw and DOORS.
  • An active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities
