About The Position

Under general direct supervision, effectively and efficiently provisions, installs configures, operates and maintains compute and storage environments, software and related infrastructure and performs related duties assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, or in a job-related field of study.
  • Five (5) years of experience in Systems Engineering which involved the maintenance of compute and storage systems.
  • Expert knowledge of data center design, management and operations; software-defined data center theory; software-designed storage theory; disaster recovery and data protection operations; information security as it pertains to compute and storage environments; cloud technologies; storage area networks and fiber channel/iSCSI; the Dallas County Department of Information Technology policies and procedures; project management and research techniques; the concepts, practices, and procedures of other information technology fields and their interaction with data center functions.
  • Expert ability to perform market research and product evaluation testing; troubleshoot and resolve very complex problems in a compute and storage environment; analyze and understand line of business application operations; analyze and interpret business requirements and transform them into architectural designs and create related documentation; establish and maintain effective working relationships; communicate clearly, orally and in writing with varying levels of the organization with varying technological understanding.

  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and good driving record.
  • Will be required to provide a copy of 10-year driving history.
  • Must maintain a good driving record and remain in compliance with Article Il, Subdivision Il of Chapter 90 of the Dallas County Code.
  • Must pass a national fingerprint-based records check prior to placement in such position and may be denied placement in such positions and/or access to such systems.

Responsibilities

  • Acquires, architects, installs, configures, maintains, and operates hardware and software solutions to manage and monitor compute and storage environments to meet application and core service requires; architects, implements, maintains, and operates data protection and system disaster recovery solutions; ensures data and systems are backed up, replicated and recoverable as required and manages cabinet, cabling, and power configurations.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves identified and reported problems; serves as an escalation contact for complex issues; works with vendors to resolve problems; performs advanced scripts writing.
  • Serves as senior technical lead on highly complex projects; interacts with project teams, vendors, and other agencies to gather requirements and recommends server and storage solutions; provides technical guidance for solutions, coordinates equipment deployment and participates in systems installation, configuration, and testing.
  • Provides direction in complex problem-solving situations, identifies and recommends process improvement; assists in planning and preparing for future technology solutions; stays up to date with emerging technologies and trends; researches, evaluates and tests emerging technologies and makes recommendations.
  • Participates in annual budget planning and procurement processes; assists in developing budget plans and spend plans for future year budgets; obtains vendor quotes and negotiates purchases.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
