About The Position

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS) is seeking personnel for its staff augmentation team to support the Department of Energy at the Y‑12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a government contractor supporting Y-12's mission to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent. While employed by AIS, employees will take direction from Y-12 staff. AIS provides pay, benefits, and HR functions. Applicants must be US citizens, at least 18 years old, and meet pre-employment requirements including physicals, drug screens, and background investigations for Department of Energy clearance. This position is contingent upon contract award and funding; work cannot begin until funding is confirmed.

Requirements

  • Must have machining background experience.
  • Requires an ABET accredited BS degree in an Engineering discipline plus 5 or more years of relevant professional experience or a MS degree in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • Machining experience required.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DOE Q clearance.
  • Pre-employment Drug Screen - External applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
  • Medical Exam(s) - Job related pre-placement medical examinations may be required for this position.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. If determined as such, this position would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre-employment drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a NRC or DOE regulated environment is desirable.
  • Requires an understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, and Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
  • Experience in Integrated Safety Management is a plus.
  • Additional experience is preferred.
  • Candidates with systems and equipment experience in mechanical and electrical systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support new machining center installations and/or existing machining production operations through supporting configuration management activities, various paperwork activities, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities.
  • Performs troubleshooting and improvement activities.
  • Applies systems and equipment expertise needed to resolve technical system and equipment issues in cooperation with other related disciplines.
  • Requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees.
  • Must be willing to work in a production environment.
