System Architect

Alstom•Pittsburgh, PA

About The Position

Alstom is seeking a System Architect in Pittsburgh to design and develop rail solutions. The role focuses on creating robust, scalable, and future-ready systems that support safe and efficient mobility. The architect will work with cross-functional teams to integrate business and technology and contribute to rail projects with local and global impact. The position involves designing system architectures that integrate signaling, traction, and control systems using model-based engineering tools. It also includes supporting system reliability and safety through validation, verification, and standards compliance; exploring digital twins and advanced simulation for system optimization; and sharing technical knowledge through documentation, workshops, and mentoring. Success is measured by on-time delivery of architecture deliverables, effective collaboration across engineering, operations, and customer teams, and reduced design defects and improved system performance through proactive risk management.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in SysML and MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler or Capella.
  • Experience defining system interfaces and integration strategies for complex rail systems.
  • Strong understanding of safety-critical software and hardware co-design principles.
  • Ability to translate stakeholder needs into clear, testable system requirements.
  • Collaborative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Design scalable system architectures integrating signaling, traction, and control systems using model-based engineering tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align system requirements with project goals and customer expectations.
  • Support reliability and safety through validation, verification, and compliance with EN 50128 and ISO/IEC standards.
  • Introduce digital twin methodologies and advanced simulation frameworks for system optimization.
  • Promote knowledge sharing through documentation, technical workshops, and mentoring within the engineering community.
  • Deliver system architecture work aligned with project milestones.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and customer teams.
  • Use proactive risk management to reduce design defects and improve system performance.

Benefits

  • Continuous learning and professional development programs
