Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled System Administrator to join our hospital's Information Technology team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and securing the critical IT infrastructure that supports patient care, clinical operations, and administrative functions across our healthcare facility. You will ensure maximum uptime, data integrity, and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced, 24/7 hospital environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field — or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3–5 years of experience in system administration, preferably in a healthcare or hospital setting
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows Server (2016/2019/2022/2025), Active Directory, Group Policy, and PowerShell scripting
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, or Citrix)
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls)
  • Familiarity with HIPAA security and privacy requirements
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Must be able to pass a background check and comply with hospital credentialing requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting EHR/EMR systems (Epic, Netsmart, Cerner, MEDITECH, etc.)
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, VMware VCP, CCNA, or ITIL Foundation
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and hybrid infrastructure environments
  • Familiarity with medical device networking and biomedical equipment integration

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain, and optimize server infrastructure including Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and SQL Server environments
  • Administer and support virtualization platforms built on VMware vSphere, Citrix, and Microsoft Hyper-V, ensuring high availability and efficient resource allocation
  • Design, implement, and manage Microsoft 365 services, SharePoint, Exchange Online, and related collaboration tools across the organization
  • Manage and maintain Storage Area Networks (SAN/NAS), backup systems, and data replication to ensure data integrity and availability
  • Support and maintain hospital-specific clinical systems, including Electronic Health Record (EHR/EMR) platforms (e.g., Epic, Netsmart, Cerner, MEDITECH), PACS/imaging systems, and laboratory information systems
  • Ensure all systems and practices adhere to HIPAA regulations, including the enforcement of access controls, audit logging, encryption standards, and data privacy safeguards
  • Collaborate with the Compliance and Security teams to support internal and external audits, risk assessments, and remediation efforts
  • Manage HL7/FHIR interfaces and system integrations between clinical, administrative, and third-party applications as needed
  • Administer and troubleshoot network infrastructure at the WAN, LAN, and WLAN levels, including routers, switches, firewalls, and network segmentation for clinical environments
  • Implement and manage remote access solutions including VPN, Citrix Virtual Apps/Desktops, and Terminal Services for on-call staff and remote clinicians
  • Monitor and respond to security threats, vulnerabilities, and intrusion alerts; support incident response procedures in coordination with the Information Security team
  • Manage endpoint protection, patch management, and system hardening across all hospital workstations, servers, and medical devices
  • Design, implement, test, and maintain disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity plans to ensure uninterrupted patient care during system outages or emergencies
  • Administer backup and recovery solutions, perform regular restore testing, and maintain documented Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO)
  • Participate in scheduled failover drills and contribute to after-action reviews and plan improvements
  • Proactively monitor system health, performance, and capacity using remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools; respond to alerts and notifications promptly through the service ticket system
  • Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date system documentation, including network diagrams, standard operating procedures (SOPs), configuration records, and change logs within the ticketing system
  • Enter all work activity, time, and expenses accurately in the ticketing system as work occurs
  • Work through project tickets, tasks, and phases as assigned by the IT Manager or Project Manager
  • Serve as an escalation point for Help Desk and Tier 1 support staff on complex technical issues requiring systems-level expertise
  • Collaborate with the IT Manager to prioritize and route service requests to the appropriate resources for timely resolution
  • Communicate effectively with clinical staff, department heads, and hospital leadership, providing clear updates on incident progress, scheduled maintenance windows, and system changes
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and managed service providers to ensure SLAs are met and projects are delivered on time
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours support for critical hospital systems
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior IT staff and Help Desk technicians
  • Continuously review IT publications, vendor advisories, and industry resources to remain current with emerging healthcare technologies, cybersecurity trends, and best practices
