About The Position

Network Runners is seeking a System Administrator / Simulations Operator to support the Fires Center of Excellence (FCoE). This role primarily involves operating and maintaining immersive simulation systems, specifically the Immersive CFFT III (Call for Fire Trainer III) and VBS3 (Virtual Battle Space 3). The operator is responsible for setting up, running, and managing simulations to provide realistic military training in a controlled, virtual environment. Key aspects include supporting individual and collective training, conducting capability demonstrations, and assisting with new software version testing.

Requirements

  • Must have an Active SECRET Clearance.
  • A bachelor’s degree, any discipline.
  • Minimum one year (1) experience supporting training exercise operating the CFFT III.
  • One or more years operating/maintaining an Immersive CFFT III system (AFSM, UTM, and CASM).
  • Three years hands on experience working with local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN), linking virtual simulations.
  • Three years of experience maintaining immersive simulations (CFFT2+, CFFT III) including system integration, network administration, consulting, analyzing, designing, installing and/or maintaining computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications, or network infrastructure equipment.
  • Security Plus certified.
  • Passed the Computing technology Industry Association (CompTIA) Security+ or equivalent certification exam within ninety (90) days after Requirement Award.
  • Minimum one year (1) experience supporting training exercise operating the VBS3.
  • One (1) year experience in VBS3 database administration and in database design and maintenance.

Nice To Haves

  • Seven years (7) military experience in Fire Support operations and planning preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Fires Center of Excellence (FCoE) Primary systems, Immersive CFFT III and VBS3, for training personnel in call-for-fire procedures for indirect fire and close air support and combined-arms tasks.
  • Set up, run, and manage simulations to provide realistic military training in a controlled, virtual environment.
  • Support individual and collective training.
  • Conduct capability demonstrations.
  • Assist with new software version testing.
  • Provide comprehensive training support, including hands-on exercises and practical exercises.
  • Support training for students attending the schools in person ("resident").
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), incorporating simulations, models, and mission command systems into training.
  • Assist instructors to revise training materials (Programs of Instruction (POIs), Lesson Plans, Training Support Packages (TSPs)) to fix issues found during simulation exercises.
  • Develop scenarios using the mission editor and other tools to create realistic training scenarios that meet specific training objectives.
  • Configure systems by placing entities like vehicles, weapons, and characters into the virtual battlespace and setting environmental options (time, date, weather, sea states).
  • Set up networks to ensure correct configuration for multiplayer, distributed exercises, allowing trainees to connect from remote locations.
  • Execute missions by launching scenarios and managing them in real-time, observing trainee actions, and controlling Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven characters.
  • Perform role-playing within the simulation to increase realism and challenge for trainees.
  • Operate the system in a "combined/interoperable" mode, integrating VBS3 training exercises with other simulation tools.
  • Make live adjustments to scenarios in real-time based on trainee performance to apply pressure or adapt the training.
  • Provide instructors with critique sheets.
  • Collect completed critique sheets from instructors after training events.
  • Capture data of system usage in both Training Support-Materiel Army-wide Tracking System (TS-MATS) and the FCOE SharePoint.
  • Perform routine system checks, ensuring all software and hardware are functioning correctly.
  • Test new software versions as required by the contract.
  • Support capability demonstrations and provide instructions to soldiers on how to effectively use the simulation systems.
