About The Position
Responsible for moving trailers to and from unload/load doors and throughout the yard. The role may also include physically loading, unloading, and sorting packages by hand, including lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, and placing them safely and efficiently. Switchers hook and move parked trailers between the yard and load/unload doors, coordinate trailer movements with management and/or central control, document moves using the Yard Management System where available or switcher cards, inspect switcher equipment before and after trips, and follow effective yard-switching safety processes and procedures. Switchers may also perform Package Handler duties: handling packages using hand-to-surface methods; loading and unloading packages from delivery vehicles, trailers, conveyor-system carts, and load gratings; repeatedly lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling packages for approximately two to four hours per shift; and scanning packages, reading labels and charts, verifying numbers, and sorting packages to the appropriate conveyor system. Other duties may be assigned. The desired location is Kernersville, North Carolina. Employees are required to work at the FedEx location five days a week. The stated pay is $23.00; no pay period is specified.
Requirements
- No education required.
- No prior experience required.
- Valid driver's license and ability to maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) file.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding work duties and safety methods.
- Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly.
- Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, handheld scanners, chutes, and unloading devices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.
Nice To Haves
- Six months of experience as a package handler or experience in switching/CDL operation is preferred.
Responsibilities

- Lift, carry, push, and pull packages repeatedly for approximately two to four hours per shift.
- Scan packages, read labels and charts, verify numbers, and sort packages to the appropriate conveyor system.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
