About The Position

The Jockey Truck Driver is responsible for organizing trailers on-site using a Yard Jockey truck. The position may require operating a forklift for part of the work time. The driver stages shipping loads, assists with loading and unloading trucks, maintains equipment and shipping documentation, and follows company safety and operating requirements.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have completed a minimum of 12th-grade basic education.
• At least 6 months of experience driving a commercial vehicle or yard jockey truck is required.
• Working knowledge of vehicle parts and the ability to handle minor repairs to keep equipment in proper operating condition.
• Must successfully complete the forklift driver licensing process within 4 months of hire.
• Must be able to pass a driving test or skills evaluation in a yard jockey truck.

Responsibilities

• Safely drive within the facility and stage shipping loads in various weather conditions.
• Complete daily equipment inspection sheets.
• Load and unload trucks as needed to assist production.
• Inspect equipment to ensure it is in safe operating condition.
• Secure loads or inspect them to ensure they have been properly secured.
• Perform duties consistent with applicable company rules.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on the truck and keep it clean.
• Maintain required shipping documents and verify their accuracy.
• Maintain radio contact with the base or supervisor for instructions about trailers and loads to be moved.
• Complete required paperwork.
• Operate a forklift to load or unload trailers when required.
• Follow company forklift rules and policies.
• Complete training as required by management.
• Participate in safety programs and meetings.
• Perform other duties as required.
