About The Position

The Jockey Truck Driver organizes trailers on-site using a Yard Jockey truck. The position may require operating a forklift for part of the work. The driver safely stages shipping loads within the facility, maintains and inspects equipment, secures or checks loads, handles shipping documents and paperwork, and communicates with a base or supervisor about trailers and loads to be moved. The role also includes assisting production with loading and unloading, completing required training, and participating in safety programs and meetings.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have completed a minimum of 12th-grade basic education.
At least 6 months of experience driving a commercial vehicle or yard jockey truck is required.
Working knowledge of vehicle parts and how to handle minor repairs to keep equipment in proper operating condition.
Successful completion of the forklift driver licensing process within 4 months of hire.
Ability to pass a driving test or skills evaluation in a yard jockey truck.

Responsibilities

Safely drive within the facility and stage shipping loads in various weather conditions.
Complete daily equipment inspection sheets.
Load and unload trucks as needed to assist with production.
Inspect equipment to ensure safe operating conditions.
Secure loads or inspect them to ensure they are properly secured.
Perform duties consistent with applicable company rules.
Conduct preventive maintenance on the truck and keep it clean.
Maintain required shipping documents and verify their accuracy.
Maintain radio contact with the base or supervisor to receive instructions on trailers and loads to be moved.
Complete required paperwork.
Operate a forklift to load or unload trailers as required.
Follow company forklift rules and policies.
Complete training as required by management.
Participate in safety programs and meetings.
Perform other duties as required.
