About The Position

The Patient Access team at Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital is seeking a Switchboard Operator PRN. This role is responsible for answering all phone lines in a timely manner, treating all incoming calls with dignity and efficiency, and transferring patient calls to the correct room or area. The operator will also ensure all emergency phone calls are handled with professionalism and efficiency. This position operates a PBX switchboard or telephone console to route incoming and outgoing calls, maintaining a working knowledge of hospital policies and procedures. The role involves working under the immediate supervision of the PBX supervisor and following direct instructions from various directors within Patient Access and other departments. The operator will welcome patients and family members professionally, contact nursing staff for emergency medical needs, and answer patient and visitor questions. This role is part of the professional administrative functions that support critical areas like information technology, finance, human resources, and communications within the growing health system. Requirements

Responsibilities

Operates a PBX switchboard or telephone console to route incoming calls and place outgoing calls appropriately
Maintains a working knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures in accordance with hospital policy
Works under immediate supervision of PBX supervisor
Follows direct instructions as prescribed by the PBX supervisor, ED Patient Access Supervisor, Patient Access Director, Rehab Director and/or the Psych Director
Welcome patient and family members in a professional manner
Contact the nursing staff for emergency medical needs and answer patient and visitor questions
