About The Position

The Patient Access team at Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital is seeking a Switchboard Operator PRN. This role is responsible for ensuring all phone lines are answered in a timely and professional manner, treating all incoming calls with dignity and efficiency. The operator will transfer patient calls to the correct room or area and handle emergency calls with professionalism and efficiency. This position operates a PBX switchboard or telephone console, routes incoming and outgoing calls, and maintains a working knowledge of hospital policies and procedures. The role involves working under the immediate supervision of a PBX supervisor and following direct instructions from various directors within Patient Access, Rehab, and Psych departments. Key duties include welcoming patients and families professionally, contacting nursing staff for medical emergencies, and answering patient and visitor questions. Requirements

  • Relevant Work Experience
  • 1 year experience
  • High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Operates a PBX switchboard or telephone console to route incoming calls and place outgoing calls appropriately
  • Maintains a working knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures in accordance with hospital policy
  • Works under immediate supervision of PBX supervisor
  • Follows direct instructions as prescribed by the PBX supervisor, ED Patient Access Supervisor, Patient Access Director, Rehab Director and/or the Psych Director
  • Welcome patient and family members in a professional manner
  • Contact the nursing staff for emergency medical needs and answer patient and visitor questions
  • Ensure all phone lines are answered in a timely manner.
  • Treat all incoming phone calls with dignity and efficiency.
  • Transfer all patient calls to the proper room or area in which the caller requests.
  • Ensure all emergency phone calls are treated with professionalism and efficiency.
