About The Position
Under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator/Director and in accordance with the policies of the YMCA of Southwest Florida, the Swim Instructor provides swim lessons/ private or group to children and adults of all levels and abilities based on YMCA standards and program requirements.
Requirements
- Successfully meet the Association's policies on background screening
- Proficiency in swimming strokes and the ability to instruct and demonstrate in group or individual sessions
- Ability to perform life-saving techniques if necessary
- Ability to forge mutually respectful partnerships with persons served
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Must be a self-starter with high energy and a positive attitude
- Adherence to drug/alcohol/smoke-free workplace policy
- Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques
- Ability to lift equipment and to lift a small to average-size child
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer/First Aid/AED Certifications
- WSI and/or YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent
- Completion of the YMCA's Blood Borne Pathogen's training annually
- Completion of the YMCA's Child Sexual Abuse Prevention training annually
- Completion of Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols training

Responsibilities
- Instructing all swim lesson participants
- Ensuring the safety of participants in their class
- Working scheduled hours, including starting and ending class on time, answering participant/parent questions, and cleaning up supplies
- Instructing and evaluating students in swim lessons
- Submitting completed report cards, skills sheets, and attendance information on time
- Attending mandatory meetings and training sessions
- Acting immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency
- Presenting a professional appearance and attitude, and maintaining a high standard of customer service
- Upholding all staff safety requirements, including cleaning protocols
- Utilizing the time clock and monitoring timesheets, reporting any corrections to the supervisor promptly
