About The Position
Under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator/Director and in accordance with the policies of the YMCA of Southwest Florida, the Swim Instructor provides swim lessons/ private or group to children and adults of all levels and abilities based on YMCA standards and program requirements.
Requirements
- Successfully meet the Association’s policies on background screening
- Proficiency of swimming strokes and the ability to instruct and demonstrate in a group or individual session
- Ability to perform life-saving techniques if necessary
- Ability to forge mutually respectful partnerships with persons served
- Able to maintain confidentiality
- Must be a self-starter, with high energy and a positive attitude
- Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke-free workplace policy
- Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques
- Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child
- Employment is contingent upon completing required Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse
Nice To Haves
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer/ First Aid/AED Certifications
- WSI and/or YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent
- Completion of the YMCA’s Blood Borne Pathogen’s training annually
- Completion of the YMCA’s Child Sexual Abuse Prevention training annually
- Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols
- Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor
Responsibilities
- Instructing all swim lesson participants
- Ensuring the safety of participants in their class
- Working scheduled hours, including starting and ending class on time, remaining after class to answer questions, and cleaning up supplies
- Instructing and evaluating students participating in swim lessons
- Submitting completed report cards, skills sheets, and attendance information on time
- Attending mandatory meetings and training sessions
- Acting immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency
- Presenting a professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintaining a high standard of customer service
- Upholding all staff safety requirements including cleaning protocols throughout the day
- Utilizing the time clock and monitoring timesheet, bringing any corrections to the supervisor in a timely manner
