As part of our engineering team, you’ll contribute to the technologies powering McIntosh’s next generation of audio solutions. Position Summary We are seeking a motivated Software Engineering Intern to support the development, integration, and testing of embedded firmware used across McIntosh audio products. This role provides hands-on experience with embedded systems, digital signal processing, hardware‑software interaction, and automated test frameworks. The ideal candidate is curious, detail-oriented, and excited about working with cutting‑edge audio technologies.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
  • Foundational understanding of embedded systems or low-level programming concepts.
  • Experience with C/C++ programming.
  • Familiarity with microcontroller development environments (ARM, PIC, ESP, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of debugging tools such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, or JTAG.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for audio technology and hardware‑software integration.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.
  • Exposure to real-time operating systems (RTOS) such as FreeRTOS or ThreadX.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB).
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD tools, or automated test frameworks.
  • Familiarity with digital signal processing concepts.
  • Personal interest in high‑end audio, speakers, amplifiers, or consumer electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, implementation, and debugging of embedded firmware for audio devices.
  • Develop, execute, and automate firmware test plans to validate functionality, performance, and reliability.
  • Work with senior engineers to investigate firmware defects and contribute to root-cause analysis.
  • Support integration testing of firmware with hardware components, including microcontrollers, DSPs, and audio interfaces.
  • Implement unit tests and contribute to the creation of test tools/scripts.
  • Participate in code reviews, documentation updates, and team design discussions.
  • Assist with firmware build systems, CI pipelines, and version‑control workflows (e.g., Git).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, QA, and acoustic engineering teams.
