Performs manager level credit administration of the Credit Department’s commercial portfolio and monitoring of larger credits, including those of a complex nature. Will oversee the staff of Association Credit Analysts and provide for the administration and flow of actions that require the Association’s Credit Committee Has a key role in implementing, communicating, and ensuring adherence to Association’s credit philosophy and underwriting standards consistent with the Association’s credit policy and business plans. Works under limited supervision and coordinates with others in the department as well as the entire Association. as needed. Assists Chief Credit Officer and CLO in strategic planning and special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration, finance, accounting, agricultural economics, or other related field, plus ten (10) years’ experience focused on the credit analysis function for a related lender with a minimum of five (5) years management experience in large and/or complex loans (over $2.5 million).
  • Previous experience to show a thorough understanding of agriculture / agribusiness as a business and industry.
  • This experience will also include appropriately structuring loan terms, as well as experience in both operating/production and mortgage loans, accounting standards, banking regulations, operations, and credit practices.
  • A proven leader with excellence in credit analysis, interpersonal relations, public speaking, administrative, research (including Internet) and communication skills are required.
  • Strong analytical skills to maintain sound credit underwriting standards and to evaluate and structure loan proposals.
  • Must have knowledge of business and legal practices in mortgage and commercial/operating lending, including credit standards, real estate appraisal requirements, loan portfolio management, regulatory compliance, and credit administration.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software and credit analysis software.
  • Developing successful teams, understanding strategic planning and goal setting, human resource management and public / member relations are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Farm Credit System or other Agricultural Lender preferred, A Certified Public Accounting designation, or post-graduate degree or professional certification in Accounting, Finance or related field will be considered favorably.
  • Must be well versed in the effective use of various loan analysis software programs/tools.

Responsibilities

  • Effective leader of credit professionals across the Association with special emphasis on bringing consistency to credit underwriting and structuring to commercial business needs.
  • Make recommendations for improvements of credit function within the Association, including new technology, enhanced processes and procedures and other resources needed to improve efficiencies in credit delivery.
  • Sponsors and leads credit teams in developing systems and processes to effectively underwrite traditional credit in a consistent and effective process using a risk-differentiated approach.
  • Work directly with EVP, Chief Credit Officer in setting acceptable risk tolerance levels for the Association, particular to the commercial business portfolio.
  • Experienced in providing guidance to regional credit teams in working through problem loan situations (Special Asset accounts) to minimize the risk to the Association. A strong understanding of borrower rights, forbearance processes, foreclosure actions, etc.
  • Provide input to department’s annual business plan and projected needs in the future.
  • Provide, follow, and convey verbal instruction, and to provide and receive feedback as appropriate in a respectful, business-appropriate manner.
  • Required to prepare and make effective business presentations, both written and oral, to small and large audiences.
  • Assists EVP, Chief Credit Officer in monitoring and reporting of risk trends within the Associations commercial loan portfolio for senior management and Board.
  • Serve as a member of various Association committees as assigned. Represent the Association on System efforts when called upon.
  • Must be adept at: building successful teams, conflict management, adaptability, problem-solving, multi- tasking, influencing others, creativity and being a self-starter.
  • Assists other association personnel in completing coordinated projects as assigned.
  • Manages the hiring and supervision of professional credit leaders (managers), as well as credit analyst. Ensure consistent, measurable, and fair performance techniques for all commercial credit staff.
  • Serves as the leader in the training and development needs of credit analyst staff in the commercial credit team.
  • Coordinates and manages the workflow for the credit team leads.
  • Manages and coordinates loan committee activities, including the timely identification of deal teams, delegated authorities, credit reports and related presentations to loan committee and senior management.
  • Assists Chief Credit and Lending Officers in the development, implementation, and maintenance of credit policies and procedures. Provide interpretation (guidance) on the adoption of any new regulation, policy, or procedure directly related to the credit function.
  • Assists the Chief Credit and Lending Officer in loan portfolio management and reporting functions.
  • Work closely with Regional Presidents, and guides Commercial Credit team leads (managers) and other credit office staff through providing input on credit structure, terms, conditions, etc.
  • Supports Regional Presidents on loan activity, most particularly on loans over their delegated authority, or loans requiring prior approval of the funding bank.
  • Serves as a trainer/mentor to develop credit skills of direct reports and others involved in credit analysis processes and works with EVP, Chief Credit Officer in assessment of credit skills and training for credit staff.
  • Serves as a key member of the Association Loan Committee, and chairing final loan decisions on larger, more complex loans within core lending.
