About The Position

The SV Shop Technician is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing construction equipment. This role involves using various tools and equipment, referencing technical manuals, and performing diagnostic checks. The technician will be expected to disassemble, repair, and reassemble parts and equipment, including engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components. The position also requires performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and using computers to reprogram equipment controllers. The technician must be able to work independently and effectively document repair activities.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED.
  • Four years of work experience.
  • At least two years of experience with CAT equipment.
  • Proficiency in at least two mechanical systems (e.g., transmissions, engines, hydraulics) for numerous model lines.
  • Ability to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend, and climb beside, onto, and underneath various equipment.
  • Ability to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports.
  • Ability to routinely and physically lift/position various parts and manually handle parts up to 112 pounds.
  • Cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply knowledge, written information, and verbal instructions in repairing/servicing unusual or unknown technical equipment operational problems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Check equipment and supplies required for scheduled work.
  • Comply with PPE requirements.
  • Perform independent troubleshooting and repair of construction equipment using manuals and diagrams.
  • Use lift trucks, overhead cranes, and other aids to move parts.
  • Use hand and power tools to remove, install, rebuild, repair, and test parts/equipment.
  • Reference parts information and enter data into record systems using computers.
  • Disassemble/re-assemble parts or equipment, clean parts, and use test equipment for diagnostic checks.
  • Control powered equipment or tools to make repairs.
  • Climb onto, under, and into vehicles to access all parts.
  • Use hoists, lift devices, and forklifts to move items off vehicles for repair and reassembly.
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Repair engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components.
  • Use power washers and spray paint equipment to clean and paint vehicles.
  • Reprogram equipment controllers using instruments and computers.
  • Effectively write repair activities on customer work orders.
