About The Position

This role involves performing troubleshooting and repair of construction equipment. The technician will use various tools and resources, including manuals, diagnostic equipment, and computers, to identify and fix mechanical and electrical issues. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, component repair, and ensuring equipment is ready for use.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED
  • Four years of work experience
  • At least two years of experience with CAT equipment
  • Proficient in at least two mechanical systems (e.g., transmissions, engines, hydraulics) for numerous model lines
  • Ability to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend, and climb beside, onto, and underneath various equipment to perform diagnosis and repairs
  • Ability to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports
  • Ability to routinely and physically lift/position various parts to perform repairs/service and manually handle parts up to 112 pounds, as well as use mechanical hoist for heavier parts
  • Cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Exposure to P.C. base equipment and parts information
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

  • Check equipment and supplies required for scheduled work, comply with PPE requirements, and prepare for duties.
  • Perform independent troubleshooting and repair of construction equipment using manuals, repair manuals, parts manuals, and parts diagrams.
  • Use lift trucks, overhead cranes, and other aids to lift or move parts into position for repair.
  • Use hand and power tools to remove, install, rebuild, repair, and test parts/equipment on construction equipment.
  • Reference parts, obtain information about parts, and enter data into record systems using miscellaneous resources and computers.
  • Disassemble/re-assemble parts or equipment, clean parts, use test equipment for diagnostic checks, and control powered equipment or tools to make repairs.
  • Climb onto, under, and into vehicles to gain access to all parts of the vehicle.
  • Use overhead hoists, lift devices, forklifts, and other aids to move items off vehicles and to locations for disassembly, repair, and reassembly.
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Repair engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components.
  • Lift/carry and position rams for removing idlers, unbolt idlers, remove them, and perform related tasks.
  • Use power washers and spray paint equipment to clean and paint vehicles.
  • Reprogram equipment controllers using instruments and computers.
  • Write repair activities on customer work orders.
  • Apply knowledge, written information, and verbal instructions to repair/service unusual or unknown technical equipment operational problems.
