Sustainment Engineer, Fury

Anduril•Costa Mesa, CA

About The Position

The Sustainment Engineer will support Fury air vehicles by designing, releasing, and improving structural repair solutions for fielded and in-production platforms. The role covers metallic and composite primary and secondary structures, with hands-on production-floor support to resolve build issues, preserve configuration, and maintain schedule. The engineer works with MRB analysis engineers to convert non-conformance dispositions into manufacturable repair drawings and instructions, and authors engineering change requests and orders based on production feedback. The role applies design-for-manufacturing and design-for-repair principles to develop cost-effective solutions that can be executed at production rate. It also investigates recurring production defects and test escapes, drives systemic design or process improvements, and coordinates with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Tooling, and M&P on repair methods, fixtures, and inspection criteria. The engineer provides technical guidance to manufacturing and quality teams on build intent, repair acceptability, and configuration control. Travel of up to 25% may be required to vendors, production, and test sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in aircraft structural design, sustainment, or liaison engineering, including hands-on production-floor support.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as Siemens NX or equivalent for generating repair and production drawings.
  • Working knowledge of metallic and composite structural design, behavior, and fabrication processes, including forming, machining, bonding, and assembly.
  • Experience creating, reviewing, and interpreting engineering drawings, 3D models, and GD&T.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience leading cross-functional root-cause and corrective-action efforts.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with technicians, engineers, and leadership.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% to vendors, production, and test sites as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with MRB authority, non-conformance systems, and configuration management in a regulated aerospace environment.
  • Prior liaison or production-support engineering experience working daily with manufacturing and test operations.
  • Background in design-for-manufacturability, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement for complex assemblies.
  • Experience with fast-paced prototype design and manufacture of uncrewed aircraft.
  • Hands-on manufacturing experience.
  • Practical aircraft knowledge, such as an A&P certification or pilot's license.

Responsibilities

  • Design and release structural repair solutions and repair drawings for fielded and in-production Fury air vehicles, covering metallic and composite primary and secondary structures.
  • Serve as the on-the-floor liaison engineer for production and sustainment, resolving build issues and protecting configuration while maintaining schedule.
  • Partner with MRB analysis engineers to turn non-conformance dispositions into manufacturable repair drawings and work instructions.
  • Author and release Engineering Change Requests and Orders to improve drawings, models, and specifications based on production feedback.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturing and design-for-repair principles to create cost-effective solutions that are easy to execute at rate.
  • Analyze recurring production defects and test escapes, identify trends, and drive systemic design or process changes to reduce rework, scrap, and cycle time.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Tooling, and M&P to develop and refine repair methods, fixtures, and inspection criteria.
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance to manufacturing and quality teams on build intent, repair acceptability, and configuration control.
  • Travel to vendors, production, and test sites as needed to support hardware builds and troubleshoot issues directly.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are considered part of total compensation.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, available at little to no cost to employees.
